Cold Air Block off plate

COLD Air Plate
Notice the red plate behind the filter?

Many of us use aftermarket air filters to get more air into our engines. The idea behind the Cold air plate is to keep the hot air inside your engine compartment from saturating/heat soaking your filter under driving conditions. You can open the intake all you want,(Good) but if your sucking alot of hot air into your engine you are basically defeating the purpose of attaching a high flow filter because now you've increased your intake temps considerably in removing the factory box. (Not good)

This may as well be a free mod. You can use any matierial you like, I used a high density cardboard type matierial and some 3/4 in hose (cut down the middle for the seal) and spent about 10 minutes with a Jig saw.

Next time your driving around stop and open your hood, feel your air filter, ITS HOT. place a cold air plate between the filter and the MAF and it will be cold to the touch, equaling lower intake temps therefore more dense air entering your engine ==== more power. ( or so theory states)

I will be making templates from my prototype and will have some available at the next DSM meeting. For those of you with the bigger K&N you will need to do some additional trimming for fitment.

trying to get the link up

I may have measurment here in the near future for the plate

What you will need.

Jig saw
Some stiff matierial of your choice.
protective eyewear
1 ft. 3/4 in. hose of any origin

1 functioning Brain.

Have fun

Some choices of matieral to use.

Tip 1 Rubbermaid trash can lid
Tip 2 High density cardboard
Tip 3 Aluminum flashing matierial if you want a real clean look. this will require some tin snips to cut. and you can pretty much make a box for absolute isolation of the filter from the engine compartment.
